Housekeeping and Maintenance Services

Housekeeping

The Housekeeping staff is responsible for cleaning common areas (everywhere but your room). Please remember that common areas are only cleaned once a day, Monday through Friday. Housekeeping staff will not do dishes left in hall lounges. Excessive clean-up will be billed to students/community.  Contact the RSO for any pest control.

Maintenance

The maintenance staff is responsible for repairs, heating and air-conditioning, plumbing, major maintenance projects, replacing light bulbs in permanent fixtures, and grounds maintenance.  Fill out and sign a work order at the RSO to repair and/or replace broken items.  Our maintenance staff works Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 12:30 a.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and are on-call for emergencies 24 hours.  Work orders are usually completed within 48 hours, depending on availability of materials.  Request a follow-up if the work has not been completed within a reasonable amount of time.

Heating and Air-Conditioning

Please keep your windows closed and your vents open at all times. The heating and air-conditioning systems in the Residence Halls are very sensitive and do not operate properly if windows are open and vents are blocked. For rooms with individual controls, please turn off units when not in your room.

Light Bulbs

Maintenance will replace all burnt out bulbs in any permanent light fixture, including your room fixtures. Do not do this yourself. Fill out a work order at the RSO for assistance.

Beds

Requests to raise or lower loft beds can be made at the RSO. A $50.00 charge will be assessed.

Pest Control

If you have a problem with pests, come to the RSO and fill out a work order. Remember: no pest control measures are effective if food is left out, trash is not emptied or if bedding and clothing are not routinely laundered.

Trash Disposal

Residents are responsible for discarding all trash from their room and personal trash from common areas. Trash Chutes are located near the entrance of each hall in A-I and West Lothian, on D-wing at the front of each floor in East Lothian, and in the stair towers in Pentland Hills. Boxes, including pizza boxes, should be left on the floor by the trash chute, as they will block the chute and will be collected for recycling. Recycle aluminum cans, paper, cardboard and plastics in the appropriate places. Do not dispose of your trash in common area trash receptacles.
